Reminder: Changes to LNHA License Renewal

The Board of Executives of Long-term Services & Supports (BELTSS) was required by recent legislation to migrate license renewal for licensed nursing home administrators (LNHA) to every other year. BELTSS reminds licensees of the transition process, outlined below.

Regarding license renewal:

  • In 2024, those who have a last name beginning with A-L will renew with a $600 fee and 20 CEs for a 2-year period.  They will not renew again until 2026.
  • In 2024, those who have a last name beginning with M-Z will renew with $300 and 20 CEs for a 1-year period.  They will renew again in 2025.
  • In 2025, those who have a last name beginning with M-Z will renew with $600 and 20 CEs for a 2-year period.  They will not renew again until 2027.
  • As of 2026, everyone will be on the “new normal” two-year renewal cycle: A-L renewing in even years, and M-Z renewing in odd years, with a $600 fee and 40 CEs.

The Ohio Department of Aging (ODA) is also implementing a new computer system to manage renewals, applications and other business. The system will not be fully rolled out until the first or second quarter of 2024.

Because of the above changes, some LNHAs may owe an additional $300 before their license expires. ODA recommends all licensees log into the system to see if they have an additional invoice payable before the license expires.

Those LNHAs with hyphenated last names or compound name, e.g. Amy Jones Smith will renew based on her maiden name, so Jones Smith would renew with the A-L category.

Please remember, all continuing education hours may now be self-study/online if desired, and at least 1 course per renewal must be on ethics.

Licensees with questions may call 614-466-5114 or email the office directly at lhedrick@age.ohio.gov.
