LeadingAge Ohio supports housing tax credit bill

This week LeadingAge Ohio President / CEO Susan Wallace testified in support of HB3, which would create a low-income housing tax credit bill to amplify the impact of the federal LIHTC program, enabling more projects to be financed using the unlimited 4 percent tax credits as well as harder-to-finance projects in rural and underserved areas. Other advocates testifying in support included Shawn Smith, Director of the Ohio Housing Finance Agency, Amy Riegel, President /CEO of the Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio (COHHIO), Tony Long of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce and Tim Bete of LeadingAge Ohio member St. Mary Development Corporation, a Dayton-based affordable housing developer and operator.

“A new, state-level LIHTC program would offer a new lever for housing developers working to boost Ohio’s affordable housing stock during a time of great scarcity,” said Wallace in written comments. “As Ohio approaches a new future in which its older adult population becomes a prime driver of our economy, it is critical that we make sure we have safe, affordable options for all Ohioans.” To view testimony on HB3, click here.
