You Asked:
Can a temporary nurse aide who has been unsuccessful in passing the state STNA test three times still work as a temporary aide? This temporary nurse aide has worked for a minimum of 75 hours in our long-term care facility, including on-site observation, and has worked as a nurse aide under the COVID-19 pandemic waiver.
We Answered:
Yes, the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) has confirmed for LeadingAge Ohio that this temporary nurse aide may still work as a temporary nurse aide due to the waiver still being in effect. As outlined in the September 21 EIDC memo, the temporary nurse aide will be subject to NATCEP training requirements at Ohio Administrative Code 3701-18 and required to attend a formal NATCEP prior to subsequent testing. Nurse aides who worked in a skilled nursing facility under the CMS blanket waiver have four months to complete this pathway, sit for and pass the state test once the CMS blanket waiver has ended.
