CMS Issues COVID-19 Guidance for Home Health

On Tuesday, March 10, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued guidance on how home health agencies should detect, screen for and manage cases of COVID-19, the illness caused by the novel coronavirus.

The memo included guidance that closely mirrored guidance provided in other formats, including guidance for hospices and nursing homes, which includes recommendations for screening patients based on international travel, contact with other individuals with confirmed COVID-19, and signs of respiratory illness.  The guidance also includes how to treat individuals with COVID-19 in their homes, precautions to take with staff exhibiting signs of the illness, and when it is safe to cease taking precautions for someone who is no longer symptomatic.
