You Asked: The Ohio Administrative Code 3701-17-16, newly effective July 17, requires nursing homes to report elopement events. How should a provider report an elopement? 

We Answered: The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) has clarified that if the elopement does not meet the definition of Neglect under the Abuse regulation, it should be reported by emailing BLTCQ@odh.ohio.gov. ODH also reminds providers to follow all HIPAA requirements when submitting information, which may include encrypting the email to protect resident privacy.
