Indeed and Glassdoor release Hiring and Workplace Trends Report 2023

Two major employment website databases, Indeed and Glassdoor, have collaborated to explore projected workforce changes and how those trends will affect employers, employees, and the future workforce landscape.

The Hiring and Workplace Trends Report 2023 analyzes a vast database of millions of employee reviews, salaries, and other data to explore which long-term labor market trends are expected to continue over the next decade. As the COVID-19 Pandemic accelerated long-standing labor concerns, many employees are still deciphering how to navigate the 'new normal' in workforce trends. This Report can offer some insight into key focus areas that employers should consider in shaping their work environments to attract and retain staff.

The Report identifies the top five long-term labor market trends, which include:

  • Demographic shifts and aging populations will continue to make hiring a challenge for years due to labor supply issues.
  • Remote working, made popular at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, will continue to thrive.
  • Employee expectations for compensation and benefits will continue to change, with inflation being a contributing factor.
  • Workplace culture will drive employee retention and recruitment.
  • Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) will play a significant role in attracting new workers, as employees are placing a larger influence on the alignment of their workplace's values. Employers late to make progress in increasing their DEI practices and visibility will see that reflected in their workforce shortages.
