On November 20, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released the FY2024 and FY2025 concern focused areas in the QSO 24-05-NH memo which outlines the Health, Life Safety Code, and Emergency Preparedness Federal Monitoring Survey (FMS) guidance. The three CMS focus areas are Nurse Staffing (F851, F725, F727), Unnecessary Psychotropic Medication (F641, F658, F758), and Facility Initiated Discharge (F622, F624, F626). The National Concern Areas were identified based on internal CMS data sources, OIG recommendations, and the White House Initiative to Improve Care in Nursing Homes.
LeadingAge Ohio provided additional details on CMS’ focus areas and ODH insights in the October 12 Source. LeadingAge Ohio will also be providing an in-depth review of the FMS process, focus areas, and subsequent consequences from this additional CMS oversight during the January 2024 Survey Tips and Tactics (STAT) series. Registration will be forthcoming and available on the LeadingAge Ohio education webpage.
