You Asked:

Is it possible for a physician overseeing the care of a home health or hospice patient to bill for care plan oversight for their patients and if so, what all does that process entail?

We Answered:

Yes, it is possible for physicians to bill for care plan oversight of their home health or hospice patients.  Care Plan Oversight (CPO) is physician supervision of patients under either the home health or hospice benefit where the patient requires complex or multi-disciplinary care requiring ongoing physician involvement. Medicare does not pay for care plan oversight services for patients of skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), nursing home facilities, or hospitals.
