State of Ohio Tax Amnesty Program Begins January 1, 2018

The State of Ohio has announced a tax amnesty program that allows taxpayers to come forward and pay certain delinquent tax obligations under terms more favorable than usual.

The tax amnesty program

• Runs from January 1 through February 15, 2018
• Includes tax liabilities that were due and payable as of May 1, 2017

The Ohio Department of Taxation is authorized to forgive 100% of any penalties, and half of the interest that typically would be assessed on these tax liabilities.

Many types of Ohio taxes are eligible for this program, including

• individual income tax
• employer withholding tax
• sales and use tax
• commercial activity taxes
• others
