This week’s tip sheet focuses on Nursing Services (§483.35). How do you ensure contracted nursing staff meet competency and skill set requirements? According to CMS in the Federal Register:
“a facility can require in its agreement with a staffing agency that the personnel the agency sends to fill staffing needs meet certain requirements. The facility could use mandatory training requirements as well as its facility assessment, past experience, and other knowledge of its staffing needs to determine what requirements it would expect the staffing agency to ensure personnel have met prior to being sent to the facility. However, when a contract individual reports for duty, the facility must ensure that the work assigned to that individual is appropriate for his or her competencies and skill sets.”
