DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Director of Human Resources directs and manages all human resource functions and human resource personnel within The Christian Village at Mason and assures that HR policy is carried out in alignment with the overall strategy of Christian Village Communities’ business plan, objectives and mission.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES:

Essential Functions:

  1. Keep abreast of all HR related Federal and State laws, as well as any legal issues that may arise from time to time that may pose a threat to the organization, legally or otherwise.
  2. Provide consultation on all HR matters to management, utilizing legal counsel as appropriate.
  3. Evaluate and update personnel policies, procedures and systems to ensure alignment with business objectives and community culture. This includes the employee handbook and job descriptions.
  4. Establish and monitor the process for maintaining personnel files, confidentiality of such records, and release of information contained within. Conduct periodic audits of all files.
  5. Manage recruitment process in compliance with all Federal, State and local laws.
  6. Manage the employee intake process: processing applications, interviewing, screening, and new hire orientation. Manage maintenance of required logs.
  7. Develop, implement and maintain ongoing internal staff development and training programs for supervisors and managers designed to assist them in the proper utilization of HR best practices, including staff performance reviews and salary/wage administration in order to meet the organizations goals for employee satisfaction, retention and productivity.
  8. Assist in the development and the administration of all employee benefit programs and oversee annual benefits open enrollment. Assist CFO as a contact person for insurance carriers.
  9. Develop performance evaluations and reward/recognition systems to ensure consistency with business objectives and to remain externally competitive and internally equitable.
  10. Periodically reviews employee metrics (turnover, satisfaction, exit interviews) and make recommendations regarding changes to policies, procedures, reward systems or benefits that will improve employee satisfaction, retention and enhance career development.
  11. Oversee the Workers’ Compensation program and serve as the liaison with the PEO and the internal Safety Committee.
  12. Oversee all Unemployment Compensation claims, hearings and appeals.
  13. Serve as an advocate for employees and act in a conciliatory role concerning employee grievances. Confer with and counsel employee s regarding personnel issues and work related concerns.
  14. Develop and implements staff development and staff education programs to insure compliance with ODH, COA and other agencies.
  15. Review all personnel corrective actions and termination decisions. Serve as resource for management staff, explaining and interpreting personnel procedures and the implications of applicable laws and regulations.
  16. Keep the VPO apprised of the work environment and employee issues.
  17. Serve as the Corporate Compliance Officer and conduct the annual compliance audit.
  18. Serve as company liaison for the Resident/Employee Christmas fund.
  19. Responsible for OSHA recordkeeping.

OTHER DUTIES:

  1. Attend in-service training and education sessions.
  2. Perform specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by the VPO.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A minimum of five years in a human resource management for an organization with at least 100 employees. Experience in the senior services and healthcare industry strongly preferred, preferably in the setting of a Life Plan Community/Continuing Care Retirement Community.
  2. Experience in long term nursing and/or assisted living facilities strongly preferred.
  3. Comprehensive knowledge of and experience with state and federal labor regulations, personnel administration, employee relations, compensation and benefits administration, recruiting and selection, training and development.
  4. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
  5. Experience with Human Resource Information Systems, database management and payroll software. .
  6. Must possess a minimum of a bachelor’s level degree, preferably in the Human Resource or another relevant field. SPHR and/or SHRM-SCP certification(s) a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Must be able to move throughout the building and grounds as needed throughout the day; must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. Good visual and hearing acuity required; good verbal communication skills required. Must be able to speak English. May be exposed to communicable diseases, and blood and body fluids that may contain HIV and/or HBV. May be exposed to cleaning chemicals and offensive odors.
