at what it means to age successfully, while recognizing the physical
and psychosocial issues associated with aging. Designed as a realistic,
yet light hearted, look at the challenges your residents face, it also
acknowledges that we too may ultimately face similar difficulties.

This session will discuss the June 2017 HUD Notice on Violence Against Women ACT (VAWA). The presentation will include use of required forms, practices of owners/agents, and the voluntary external transfer network that is being established in Ohio.

Fruits & Vegetables: Eat the Rainbow
Presenter: TBD
Poor nutrition is a major contributor to preventable chronic diseases,
and it can be difficult to consistently access and create healthy foods
on a budget. The Wellness Matters team at Local Matters will motivate the participants to add more colorful fruits and vegetables into their lives in a real way and discuss why this is important. The team will inspire Service Coordinators to add food into the conversation of wellness at their sites. Participants will enjoy samples and take home
copies of both the handout for the day’s topic and a copy of the recipe.

LeadingAge Update

This session will provide an overview of Fair Housing laws, protected
classes, enforcement actions, costs associated with violations, and recent cases. Housing staff and service coordinators are in contact with residents on a daily basis and need to be familiar with Fair Housing laws. In addition, the session will give the latest update from HUD on regulatory, budgetary and operational issues. Common real-life situations staff face and understanding how to respond will be reviewed.

Through the Eyes of the Behoarder: The Health Care
Professional's Guide to Understanding Professional Hoarding
Kristy Matheson, Hospice of the Miami Valley
This seminar will define hoarding through the eyes of those who struggle with this disorder, and will define the DSM-V diagnostic criteria
for compulsive hoarding. Participants will understand the stages of
hoarding and the thought processes involved. Interventions, treatment modalities and safety concerns associated with hoarding will also be discussed.

Active Shooter Training - Columbus PD
Officer L.A. Nelson, Columbus Division of Police-Advanced Training
Unit
Larry Nelson, a 24-year veteran of the Columbus Police department will
share steps to take if confronted with an active shooter event. This
session will focus on strategies, guidance and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event. Topics include the history and prevalence of active shooter events, the role of employees, response
options, medical issues and drills. |
